He won’t let me be a soccer mom!
October 8, 2007
I signed Handsome up for soccer last month. I really wanted to expose him to some social team work and figured since this was right in town and the cost and schedule worked this would be the perfect solution. This past Saturday was our second attempt and well…he just isn’t that into it.
Last Saturday I was so happy to see him run off with the coach and about 50 other boys to kick a ball into the net. I was excited to see him applauding himself and taking his turn when it was his turn. He stood in line behind the other kinderkickers and I smiled as he and his friend Nicky ended up in the same group thinking ahhh…this is life.
Until, right after the water break he didn’t want to go back on the field. He wanted me to stay with him. He wanted to go on the slide which was promised after he played soccer. He wanted to go home. He wanted milk. He wanted to go pumpkin picking. He wanted everything under the sun EXCEPT going back to the field. Oh well I told myself this was his first attempt and maybe he was tired.
Over the week I took him to the soccer field to kick the ball. He kicked it alright for all of 3 minutes then he was off and running. Ok, so maybe he needs the other kids around to be interested.
Fast forward to Saturday and there we were running to the field to join the group, I threw him his soccer ball and said, “hurry up, the coach is calling everyone to the line”.
He just stood there, picking his lip (his newest nervous twitch).
I said, “Are u you going?”
“No! I want to go to the slide,” he says.
“No slide unless you play,” I remind him.
So we sat and watch his friend play and then went home.
We will be going until the end of middle of November. If he continues to be uninterested after that we will stop but I am hoping that he eventually loves it.
I won’t go buying the “soccer mom” sign for the car just yet but there is still a chance with Banshee girl who is very interested. I wish she was old enough to join.
There’s always next year.

I’m new to SPC too, welcome!
I love chopsticks but not sushi. I tried, I really tried. My daughter would eat nothing else if she were allowed to!
Whelp…at least he looks freakin’ CUTE in his little soccer outfit!!!
