Last week I received a package of Weight Watcher’s newest snack cake……..

Golden Sponge Cake with Creamy Filling

I have been watching what I eat for four weeks so getting a box of sweets was like heaven for me. Tearing open the box and sliding out the pretty blue and white box from Weight Watchers I smiled thinking about the fact that I was about to eat something for the sake of a review.

Getting a plate from the cabinet I pulled an individually wrapped Twinkie looking cake from the box. I was beyond excited. You would think that someone had just given me a Junior’s Cheesecake and a fork.

I sat down across from my husband who was very amused as I took my first bite of sweets in 4 weeks. This was my very first Weight Watchers snack cake and I have to say, I don’t know why I waited 4 weeks to have a sweet. It was moist and the filling was good but not sugary. I loved it.

Sitting back I looked at my husband and asked if he would like to try one. He said, “no thanks.”

I told him, “good because I was really only asking to be polite, and I didn’t want to share these”.

Why you will love these:

  • They are good!
  • It is a convenient, sensible snack food!
  • It is individually wrapped and easy to take with you.
  • Each snack cake is only 1 Weight Watchers point.
  • Cheat without the guilt (but remember the serving size-it would be easy to grab two)

Why your kids will love them:

  • They look like Twinkies!!
  • They taste good!
  • They are considered “your snack”

On my shopping list this week: Weight Watcher’s Carmel Cake, Chocolate Cake, Carrot Cake and Golden Sponge Cake.

Ok, let’s talk photography. You love taking pictures right?

That digital camera is awesome and you get instant satisfaction on seeing the thousands of photos right away. I know, I know me too.

This book, The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Photography Essentials by Mark Jenkinson is a necessary read for anyone who loves taking pictures.

What I loved the most is how basic (well, I guess the fact that it’s an idiots guide should have been my first clue) and fundamental this book is.

I must admit, I hate reading well, non-novel (heck, is that even a word) books . I hate reading about how something works or how to learn something, self help books kill me. I just want to jump in and use, do, learn. I don’t want to read about it.

I read this book from cover to cover. Why? Because not only do you get basic knowledge like understanding the basic science behind how a camera works but you get tips on everything from editing your images, to shooting in any kind of light and everything in between.

Things like:

  • Use of light and shadow
  • The difference between shooting in film and shooting digital
  • Angle
  • The difference between JPEG’s and RAW files
  • Vantage points
  • Composition (the rule of 3rds – I am totally using this rule when I shoot these days)
  • Adjusting depth of field
  • Shooting moving objects
  • and more

My favorite part of the book, were all the pictures 150 total. Using pictures with a description is a great learning tool.

Reading this book is like taking a photography class. This is a must have for anyone who wants to take amazing pictures.

It also made me want to return to my beloved expensive 35mm sitting in a protective bag in the closet. As Mark states, can you really

Sam Feels Better Now by Jill Osborne and illustrated by Kevin Collier, is a wonderful book about a little boy who is going to a “special” therapist for the first time.

Sam and his mom head into a therapist office because Sam “was scared by something” his mother tells the therapist.

The therapist then helps Sam by having him draw pictures, (someone who is scared, something that is scary, people that Sam loves and who love him, etc.) The drawing pages are interactive. This is where the child reading the book will fill in what is pertinent to their situation.

The book is a wonderful tool to help children and their therapist or parent, deal with the child’s feelings. We don’t know what scared Sam because it will be different for each child.

Sam Feels Better Now is a safe, non threatening way for children to talk about their feelings and how to deal with them. A great way to empower your child to take control of their feelings and deal with them in a healthy way.

I believe this is a great book for ages 4-14 even though the book is geared toward 4-7. The characters are sweet, colorful, non-threatening with big caring eyes.

The purpose of the book is to help children who have experienced traumatic events to be able to learn how to cope, and reduce the effects of traumatic stress.

Great book for a child about to enter therapy or for a parent trying to find out more about their child. Also, a great resource for therapists.

I’m going to start this post with a question and the obvious answer:

Can You Ever Have Too Many Hair Clips? Not, if they are Maiden America‘s

I was honored to received a package of the most beautiful hair clips this mom has ever seen.
Maiden American’s clips have already been featured on my site here and here.

(Here is my daughter opening up her amazing package of barrettes)

The company Maiden America (Even the name makes me want to buy), specializes in non-slip barrettes, for pin straight hair. The clips are all beautiful and my daughter was ecstatic when I told her to chose some clips.

My daughter has medium hair, however, it is pin straight and because she is active most clips hold but in an hour of her bopping around have worked through the hair to the bottom and finally lost.

(Our Collection so far the ribbon was from Maiden America also)

Since using Maiden America’s clips; we have not lost a single clip in 7 days. These clips don’t budge and also my daughter can’t take them out. This is a God send for this mom whose little one is always removing her clips and running around like a crazy girl. A friend of mine came over and my daughter showed her the clips. She is always talking about the things that she can make. She took the clip and right after she said, “I can make this” upon sight. She followed up with “these are really good clips! I have to get some for my dog.” Yes, these clips would work great for your pretty dogs too!

Not only are all of the clips beautiful they are also gentle on the hair. The piece that makes them non-slip keeps the hair away from the metal of the clip.

I wish I could wear them!!

(The first day she got them she just had to wear all of them-we love the ladybug ones).

If you are looking for a high end, home made, beautiful clip this is the place to go.

The brain child behind this amazing invention is a mom, homeschooler, blogger, and all around wonderful person.

Maiden America also sells adorable handbags, head bands, clutch bags.

See some hair ideas here.

(She wore them on her very first day of pre-school too)

Dating Makes You Want to Die – but you have to do it anyway.

I absolutely love this funny, entertaining book! Daniel Holloway and Dorothy Robinson have created the perfect opposite of such books as Men are From Mars, Women are From Venus. The reader will totally appreciate mentions of current media attention hogs like: Lost, George Clooney, Bill O’Reilly, Jeremy Priven, The Hills, and more.

Reading this book is like listening to your cooler, older cousin tell you without the b/s, how to approach the dating world with balls and finesse. “Alcohol will turn the path of your bedroom into a slip n slide.”

The sarcastic banter of the authors is hysterical as they navigate you though all stages of the dating process like:

  • First Impressions
  • Places to meet potential dates and whether it should be for lunch or dinner.
  • Surfing the internet dating sites like eHarmony and Match.com, “like real
  • life but faker.”
  • How to dress “Bohemian chic costs more than your life, It takes more money than you ever thought possible to spend on items that were made for seven cents by child laborers”.
  • The reasons you are not having sex and the remedies. I can think of about 8 people off the top of my head that really need to read and underline all pertinent parts of this chapter. “You got laid back in college but now the life police have pulled up in their responsibility paddy wagon”
  • Alcohol has a place in dating. “With booze, your flaws are as hidden as Cameron Diaz’s acne.”
  • Preparing for liftoff, “Clean the dishes, clean the toilet, the litter box and anything else that smells like poop.”
  • Talking you down when you realize that you just might be in a relationship, “changing your MySpace profile from single to in a relationship.”
  • How to move in together successfully and the pros and cons of “the great shared bed hoax.”
  • Knowing when it is time to break up and how to do it, “(bullet-proof line) I slept with someone else.”
  • And so much more……

I personally love the He Says/She Says Sections and the Anti-Cosmopolitan like quizzes. God, how I used to hate the Cosmopolitan quizzes.

This quick, easy read has enough really good points to be considered a self book with humor or enough humor to be considered a self help book on humor. You decide.

You will not be disappointed. Great read for a friend, sibling, family member going off to college, someone entering the dating world again, or even someone already in a relationship who could use a good laugh.

I have got to tell you about the coolest kid video ever.

This week, I received the most wonderful package of videos my kids and I have ever seen.

Ever hear of Kideo? Kideo takes your child’s picture and inserts it into a video making them the STAR. What kid doesn’t get excited about seeing themselves on TV?????

They have 9 different titles to choose from including some of the most popular kid favorites.

  • Does your son love Spider-man? Does he constantly dress up in his too small Halloween costume because he thinks he IS Spider-man? Well, now he can star AS Spider-man in his own video.
  • If Dora is the one for your kid, how about letting them star in their own 24 minute Dora video? Complete with all of their favorite Dora characters.
  • How about Arthur? My personal favorite, because your child is seen very often. Super Cute!!!

They also have:

  • Barney
  • Baby Genius
  • Care Bears
  • Gregory and Me

The DVDs run 18-25 minutes and your child will be as entertained as mine. I promise.

Hey, your kids are watching these kid shows anyway. How about creating a heirloom that can be enjoyed for years to come? Long after your kids grow out of these videos they will still be interested in watching them because they are the star! I doubt you will be selling these at your garage sale anytime soon.

My kids were beyond happy with these DVD’s. They spent the afternoon watching them. They danced, they sang along, they were beyond excited to see themselves on the videos playing with their favorite characters.

My daughter couldn’t believe that she was in a video with Dora. She loved all the characters and watched it 12 times the first day she got it and when she woke up this morning it was the first thing she asked for.

I loved watching her face as she said, “they said my name mommy. They said my name!”

She sang along with them when they sang “backpack” and the birthday song.

My son loved the Spider-man video. He is Spider-man in the movie, and had to put on his costume and move along with his character on the screen. We have watched this video about 15 times in the past 2 days.

Now, let me tell you how easy it is to get your very own video:

  • Head over to Kideo, let them know which one you want
  • Send a picture of your child either through email or snail mail and the pros at Kideo will make your child a star.

Great gift ideas for any holiday, birthday, graduation, etc.

I want to be THAT Aunt. I hope none of my nieces or nephews are reading this because I really want to surprise them.

The folks at Kideo were kind enough to give my readers a $5.00 discount.

Now is the time to start thinking about the most amazing, fun, personalized, gift for your kids, nieces, nephews, kids you babysit for, or your husband (if he is a Spider-man fan, this is a great gift). Shhhh….I might just have to get one for my husband for his stocking this year.

Head over to Kideo‘s website now to place an order. Oh, and be sure to use the unique discount code created for my readers which is REES.
